Leonberg is a small village about 17 km from Stuttgart, which has the most
wonderful old buildings in the old town and a thriving modern new town a few
kilometres walk away.
This is where the legend says that the Leonberger was created.
There is a Leonberger show held here in September every year, where
Leonbergers and their owners congregate from all over Europe. I was very
fortunate to go to this show in 2006 and was amazed at the diversity of all
the different Leonberger's. 2006 was a particularly special year as a
bronze statue was unveiled in the Market Square just outside the old town,
in honour of the Leonberger.
